Doylestown: sorry we are new to site and not good with computers , we are a married couple with farm acreage and we are looking to purchase non-gmo bred, day old, chicks from a family or small farm or a place we can preorder? We just need 3 to 5?? Anyone know? Nearby?? Thanks:) Giacomo and Maria

:welcome Welcome from Berks County! Technically speaking there is no such thing as Non-gmo chickens (because they're domesticated animals, and by definition selectively breeding for traits you like is considered genetic modification).

However, I know exactly what you mean, and what you're trying to avoid so I'll try to help the best I can. If you need strictly Organic raised chicks, that's going to be a bit more difficult, and I personally don't know anybody off the top of my head that could help.

However if you would just like chicks from a local farmer that has all of his birds outside in good conditions with no funny business. I do believe @dheltzel should be firing up the brooders soon if he hasn't already. He normally has a very large selection of chicks, ducks, and other poultry available.

Doylestown is pretty far from most of us. There are some breeders in Bucks County I know from Facebook. I don't really know any breeders that can claim to be non-GMO though. I think you are going to have a tough time finding that. Which means there is a market that is not being tapped, right? If you can have roosters, you could hatch non-GMO chicks to sell in your area. You won't have much competition, that is for sure.

I do have some chicks out already, I had to do some "test hatches" you know, just to check fertility ;)
My first bigger hatch is this coming weekend. Chicks, ducklings and turkey poults all due to hatch. Lots of rare Welbars have been hatching, those normally have terrible fertility, but not this year, almost every egg I set has been hatching!

Oooo that's awesome!! So far I have 4 goose eggs that I'm gonna try and set (Sophie's finally laying) and I'm gonna see what I get. If everything works out the way we predicted it I should be able to get Sex Linked Pomeranian Saddleback Geese! :celebrate

They're growing already!

Welcome from Cambria county! I agree with others. Finding chicks that are not GMO raised will be very difficult but you could get chicks from anyone and raise them from that point on with non GMO feeds. Too bad you're on the other side of the state. My brooders are overflowing!

Congrats, that's awesome! There's been very little demand for chicks so far this year in my area. Usually, I can't hold on to any poults or pullets but this year, I can't seem to sell any! If anyone wants some F2 sex linked Olive ever hatching eggs, let me know, I'll ship you some. I don't think I'm putting any more in the incubator until demand picks up again.
