I wish my dog hadn’t started going hunting. Something is out in the darkness that he wants to get. He doesn’t bark nightly, and if I try to get him to come in, he is still lunging at something. I just cannot trust him to not go hunting afterwards. You know? The job he wouldn’t do a year ago.

:gig I saw at a local shelter, they have a whole pack. They are listed as “bigger dogs that are hard to handle.” I assume an avid hunter passed away or has Alzheimers. A shame his dogs were not snatched up by a friend or relative.

I had a nightmare a few days ago that a mouse was in the bed. I only could go back to sleep because there’s no way this dog is letting a rodent near me. The last dog? He never would have noticed. Beagles are handy sometimes.

Still no eggs. What's up with that? Going to start researching my replacement breeds. I want at least one Orp, and I think a wyandotte. One of the pretty ones. I'm thinking of not keeping the ameraucanas - anyone want them? I'll wait till spring to decide about that.

I have enough Ameraucanas but if you want orps, I have a nice breeding group of BBS (and possibly lavender) English orps :) I can send you some eggs in the spring of you'd like. DD and Titan

Do Americaunas usually lay in winter, LadyBehir? I only have one and she is laying, but she was a mid April hatch so she was late to start laying. Apparently she loves it so much she doesn’t want to stop! After the big move she is the only one consistently laying in the new nesting boxes. Most stopped in shock, and the few eggs I’ve found, 2 were under the boxes, 1 was on top of the boxes, and 2 were in the yard. Oh well, I guess they’ll get the hang of it eventually.
