I finally off-loaded my 2 male chicks from the last hatch to someone from Craigslist. I was so happy to sell them to someone who didn't mind they were male, and wanted them as pets. Today I got these two pictures, and a description of how they were sleeping with her and her young daughter and helping her daughter with math homework. Really. I am not inventing this. I almost killed these chicks and now they are sleeping in silk.

We're surviving. We spent a couple hours trying to clean off our roof today. Only got about half of it shoveled off but we have 5" thick ice dams all around the edge of the roof and it's backing up water in to the house in places. We got a few cleared up but with salt next to impossible to find, it's a difficult and slow process. A sunny day would really help. And yes, the few eggs that we are getting right now are usually frozen.

I have been getting salt delivered with my Giant peapod delivery--it is SO nice not to have to carry it!
No frozen eggs, here--my coop is overcrowed and the girls hate walking on the snow, so their body heat is keeping it pretty warm in there.

Slow and steady, haven't seen grass in 2 months up here on the ridge, but could be worse... well is still good and no power failures. Eggs are rarely froze because it seems the broodies parked in each coop hoard the eggs all day till we collect them, lol.

Same here for roof, luckily Chris was able to clear the worst of it before it backed up into the house. We seriously need a sunny day to get ahead of the ice build up though. Snow and ice covered driveways and sidewalks have been causing us nightmares on the ambulance.

Oh hey - in non-chicken news, my Alice will be 2 on Sunday! AAAAnd! She's going to be a big sister in September! AND even more exciting, she's going to be a cousin. Not just once, but TWICE! My daughter is expecting TWINS in August but will probably more likely be in July.

I've been losing 1 or 2 chickens each day. Moved another pullet today that was looking bad, expect to find her dead tomorrow. Forecast leads me to believe if we can get to Monday things will be better after that.
