I sincerely don’t understand something. I discovered last week that the outside access door to the basement was missing the knob. I finally went to look from the basement, and the knob was picked up, and sitting by the door. The one that the guy installing the water heater used. My house is old, but I’m not the one breaking doors (seriously, almost every time someone breaks something, it’s a door. 9 now!). How are people so rough, and why has not one person mentioned it, let alone apologized?
Real question. This is ridiculous.

There's part of a generation amongst us that doesn't take responsibility for their own actions. Sad situation for them to be in. Personally I simply couldn't push off my own conscience of not telling the the home owner if I broke something.

My old fashioned white rocks were my favorite, 13+ lbs and as gentle as could be, often found young chicks sleeping under their wings at night.
Silver pencils aren't as big and cuddly but still great daddy's to the Littles. Nothing cuter than a huge rooster feeding tiny tidbits to tiny chick's.
Our light Sussex roosters were super people friendly and great with hens, not as attentive to the chicks but never mean to them. I don't remember ever catching chicks sleeping under their wings like they did the SPR and WR roos.

I guess the English Orpington roos would have to be my pick. They're huge, friendly and docile. DD used to always pick up our old giant guy and carry him around. I've seen them tend to chicks and allow seramas to snuggle under their wings on the roosts to keep warm. They rule the coop gently but firmly, like a good king. I've had specific roos of other breeds that were favorites because of their personalities but to pick a specific breed, English Orpington again wins my vote.

I have two chickens in my basement now: little legbar girl, winnie the pooh, has bumblefoot in both feet and splash marans, Kiwi, with frost bite on her butt! Yes, on her butt! Somehow she had bad diarrhea in the coldest day of this winter and her butt is turning black! I have heater on for them, and both are doing ok. I hope they will recover soon. I'm very pround of myself being able to soak Winnie's feet and pull cores out of her feet with just tweezers! This was the first time I treated bumblefoot. Does anybody know how long it takes for bumblefoot to recover? I hope to return them to the coop together in couple weeks. The large dog cage is too small for two adult chickens. But it's difficult to move them back to coop when it's so cold outside.
