I wish their cats would be stupid enough to get into my humane trap out by the chickens so I can take them and have em done!!!!!!!!!!!!! the dog pound near me just posted on their site that they have put more dogs to sleep or sold to expermenting then they had adopted it was 54% put down and 23% sold to expermenting.

I really think they should fine people who breed dogs more than once really. I think once maybe fine if you know you can find good homes for them but then their taking the places of other dogs who could of gotten the home and are put to sleep because of it. It should be free to get cats and dogs spayed and neutered then their would be less of a problem.

I don't like the dishonesty, she should have told them up front that the dog would most likely not be adopted, but she may have been new or just not handled that part, she may have actually thought the puppy would be adopted.

I do agree with the other posted that said the puppy's best chance would have been to place him themselves. I'm just not sure why the dog wasn't considered a stray? With our shelter strays are held for 10 days, owner surrenders could be killed as soon as the person dropping them off is out the door, but strays get their 10 days. I don't think anyone can be mad that a dog they turned in was put down, I remember reading the card on one dog there, his name was Duke, he was a year old, neutered, utd on shots, and had alittle info about his temperment and personality, I just thought someone cared at one time, atleast alittle, but they dropped him off and he was out of sight and out of mind. He didn't get adopted by the way.

As much as I do not like the government getting mixed up in stuff, I think this is one issue they need to work on.

People should HAVE to, by law, apply for breeder permits. To keep animals that are intact, you should need to have a breeder permit. Unless you have a permit, you should be fined for having an unspayed or unnuetered animal.

This would solve SO many issues. Breeding mutts is not the issue, many people I work with, who breed and train working police dogs, will breed working mutts and LOVE them. But they still breed extremely responsible in their actions. Mainly by having waiting lists for puppies that don't even exist yet. They take careful time in arranging pair that compliment each other.

Dogs should be bred for a purpose and not just "as a good experience for the children". You can breed pets, but they should be bred by responsible breeders. Breeders that can past and willingly apply and pay for a test for a permit.

Any responsible dog owner/breeder would agree. Breeds shouldn't be banned, poor breeders should.

The county run shelter where I volunteer has a kill rate of 80%, sometimes higher. 100% of owner surrenders are euthanized as we know that no-one is looking for them. Strays are given a mandatory 3-day hold unless they are sick, injured, or aggressive and then they are euthanized immediately. After the 3-day hold, pitbulls (and look-alikes), black and brindle dogs are euth'ed as no-one wants them. Next to go are dogs over 50lbs and over one year old, as no-one wants them. At the end of three days, they all go. The cycle continues 24/7/365...

June 2008 was a VERY, VERY good month for us....

2574--number of intakes
1335--number of intakes euthanized
52%--percent of intakes euthanized
9%--percent of June intakes that were returned to owners
12%--adopted
17% transfered to other organizations.
39% of adoptable animals (friendly, cute, socialized, trained, not black, brindle or pit bull, etc,) were euthed
10% of adoptable animals were held over...

July wasn't as good due to the 4th and the peak of litter season, but the numbers haven't been published yet.

If people would stop calling them pit bulls and start calling them what they are, American Staffordshire Terriers and let that name go, their reputation might start recovering. Along with Rottwielers and Dobermans, they are wonderful detector dogs for autistic people and others who suffer seizures. Any dog fought in a pit in the past could be called a pit bull, and the name is just thrown around by ignorant morons trying to sound tough. NOT THOSE WRITING THIS THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM SAYING SO STOP TYPING RIGHT NOW! I am referring to those punks who walk them around on chains and abuse absolutely wonderful animals.
No animal is born mean, just like humans they have to be turned that way.

Tomorrow the numbers will be similar, but the individual animals will be different due to today's euth's, transfers and adoptions....
