Has anyone seen the PBS documentary titled "People like Us"? I was at a Understanding Poverty workshop for work yesterday and was shown clips of this video, wow powerful stuff. Really an eye opener and made me realize that I even get trapped in that cycle of judging by appearance. I really enjoyed the training, especially the few clips we saw of this documentary. Its on the PBS website too.

Were you at the Ruby Paine workshop? I have read both of her books for Head Start. I read the comments people make on here or say in general about "poor people" and I really don't think they understand there is just a different way of thinking for these people that is hard to change.

One teacher I worked with was raised very upper middle class and she wanted to call in parents for things like the kids not wearing socks with their shoes or having hair that wasn't brushed.

I was like - They cared enough to get their child up, dressed and to school on time.

I will have to go watch that documentary.

I was at a workshop using SOME of Ruby Payne's materials, but the presenter actually does her own thing. I got the book tho, from Ruby Payne. I am going to present on it to our Social Service Financial department and recommend that we ALL get this training, not just myself!
