My little cuckoo silkie, out of four chickens three turned out to be Roos and im thinking Pepper, (see pic) might be a roo too despite not yet crowing (19 weeks old) Im thinking last in the pecking order with other roos then if Pepper is a he then he would be less likely to crow.
Any thoughts please Roo or Hen ?
Thank you :)

I just told someone yesterday that I was hoping to find some cuckoo Silkies! :love

Definitely cockerel. :(

Sometimes crowing has to do with pecking order... but that is NOT my experience and they are ALL individuals. Got a Silkie boy crowing between 4-5 weeks old just recently. Had other boys not crow until 30 ish weeks. And yes, I had a previous Silkie boy who started trying to mate at 8 weeks old.

No matter how many times I see people say only the head rooster crows... In my stag pen that simply isn't true. They crow it up when they want to. If a higher boy is standing near by, they may try to stop the lower crower. But mine just jump farther away, sometimes not even breaking their current crow and continue what they were doing. I keep Marans and Silkies together. Silkies don't eat too much so you could consider a stag pen. Mine is only for eating or breeding. Not many birds make pet status and become lifer's but it might be an option for you. Dynamics are the same for Silkie's as ANY other breed. It's all about personalities if they can live happily together or not.

Anyways, good luck rehoming if that's what you are trying. :fl

We eat our extra boys including Silkies. They are a bit stronger flavored so good for soups and stock type stuff. If you can't do it, no shame in letting them feed someone else's family. :drool
