Peppermint oil, mice and chickens

I have a small but persistent mouse issue in the coop. I would like to try the peppermint oil method of encouraging them to live elsewhere, but am wondering a) does it work? and b) would the oil fumes harm the chickens in any way?

Your experience/expertise most appreciated, as always.

My friend has mice in her house & she just tried the peppermint oil, it didn't work.....sorry!
