perch height

All,
What height should the perch be above the floor or in my case below the dropping board.

I am going to use a 2x4 as the perch since that seems to be the way to go.

I have a mock image below in this the perch is 1' off the dropping board which leaves ~1' to the roof above the perch.

I don't think that's enough room from perch to roof. Most specs I see call for a minimum of 18" clearance with 24" preferred (remember, they have to hop up there and that requires a bit of additional space over just being able to "fit" between the perch and the roof.

So if i dropped the perch to the 18 " below roof line then that would put me at 5 1/2 over the dropping board which seems low to me. Would this be sufficient clearance or am i going to run into some other issue?

That I don't know. I'm not sure if there's a minimum height for a perch. I know in most coops, you want them high enough for the birds to be able to walk under, but I don't think you really want to encourage birds to walk on a poop board, do you?
