Should chicken perches be round or square? (2x4). i recently read that in the winter they should be on square perches so that their feathers cover their feet & prevent frostbite. Makes sense. I have always used round perches (since they're birds). What is best for their feet? Thanx! Vera

For cold climates you should use 2x4's with the 4 side up. Make sure the edges are not sharp.

My hens have a 2x4 with the wide side up for everyday use. The look more comfortable sitting on a wide surface then trying to balance on a round one.
