Hi there !!! My name is Susan and I'm new to chicks. I had a quick question on figuring out the gender of one of my production red chicks. So, I bought four chicks from my local feed store about a month ago. I had one girl "develop" a bit quicker than the rest and I'm almost 99% sure she is a hen. Her comb is small and a faded flesh color. She also developed her tail. Two of my other girls are growing at the same pace and are doing great. They have little tail buds are small flesh colored combs. However, my last chick sprouted up out of no where and is almost larger than my more developed girl. It has a larger comb that is slightly darker than the rest and her feathers are darker as well. She does not have defined or darker waddles but her legs are huge. She still doesn't have a tail. Just wondering if anyone has noticed this with any chicks of their own? I sure hope I don't have a cockerel - but if I do I would certainly keep him. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might have !! xo
