Permethrin on chicken run

Yes... Can I ask why you sprayed the run?
Did you spray the coop and the birds too?

Yes sprayed the coop and birds. I sprayed the run because a few days ago I was in there feeding them and when i went back inside my home I felt something bite me on my leg... it was a tiny red bug that looked like a mite to me ... then had two more on my socks.

Oh great, thank you.

Did you look closely to see any bugs on the birds?
There's lots of insects out there, the majority are of no threat to the chickens.
Using insecticide indiscriminately create resistance, so that chemical may not work when you really need it.
Just sayin', you might want to think about that.

My Bug Check notes:
Have you checked them over real well for mites and/or lice?

Google images of lice/mites and their eggs before the inspection so you'll know what you're looking for.

Part the feathers right down to the skin around vent, head/neck and under wings.

Best done well after dark with a strong flashlight/headlight, easier to 'catch' bird and also to check for the mites that live in structure and only come out at night to feed off roosting birds.

Wipe a white paper towel along the underside of roost to look for red smears(smashed well fed mites).

I have rain/shade tables in my pens for the birds to get some shade and protection from the rain. I have sprayed under the tables and also put poultry dust under them. The birds like to dust bathe under the tables. This picture was taken on an overcast day.

I also put the poultry dust in the nest boxes. If you do have mites, you will need to spray weekly for awhile because it does not kill the mite eggs. The bonus is the eggs are safe to eat because there is no egg withdrawal period.
