Have been using poultry dust in the coop lately and totally forgot that one reason I didn't want to put it in the litter was because we have two cats. One does like to check out the coop often. Rethinking pest control. AGAIN
 
You might try DE. It won't hurt your cats. There are lots of discussions on this if you're interested in trying it, just type "DE" or diatomaceous earth in the search box to find the threads.
 
DE isn't good as it can cause respiratory problems and isn't very effective in preventing or getting rid of lice or mites.
