Persimmons as a Supplement

Say, did you know that a persimmon seed has a tiny set of silverware (spoons etc.) inside it? Split a simmon seed in two and see for yourself.

Yep, around here it's a well held (loosely believed ) tradition to split a seed or two to predict the severity of the winter:

Spoon = lots of snow
Knife = cold, with sharp winds
Fork = mild winter

This is an observation, not a problem to be solved.

I have nearly 100 Persimmon trees just starting to bare fruit. Fruit will be available for the next 30 to 45 days. Most of my birds are currently confined to pens to I collect the fruit and apply about 6 per bird in a cage each day. The feed mix I use is then being reduced in terms of the shell corn amount as I assume the fruit are providing a lot of carbohydrates.

The free-range chickens are getting the fallen fruit on their own and seem to cherry pick what they find. Once the fruit start fermenting drunk chickens will be stumbling about once in a while.
I made persimmon wine one time. I threw the pulp out in the yard and all my free ranging ducks and geese bellied up to the bar. About 30 minutes after consuming approximately 40lbs. They were stumbling around, couldn't fly, laying all around with their heads on the ground. My mom was so upset, she didn't know what had happened. She started yelling at me, "What's wrong with your ducks?" "Their all dying!" :lau
When I told her what had happen, I thought I was going to get a terrible beating, she stayed mad at me for a month. :oops:
