On another thread titled "taming bobwhites" we found out the pros and cons of keeping that species and their "tame-ability". Some were true whisperers with their quail, some had tales to tell about the aggression. I have a better grasp on the Bobwhite as a species for keeping with a youngster in my house.

Would like breeders or keepers to weigh in on the following species. 5 yr old is wanting to hatch out the "ones with the thingy on their head mom, cause they're pretty and cool".

Let's have it folks. You know I can advise on habituation of species (making them calm using behavior modification technique)... But as proven in the other post about Bobwhites...You MUST hear about the species specifics/ quirks/ tendancies from the pro raising them...
Gamble
Valley
Bluescale

Please respond with what species you have and what you have observed. Which one would I want to hatch out for the boy as another project? Needs? Warnings?

gambles are kina flighty I have a pair and 2 lonely males the pair has tamed down a little bit the hen is a sweetie when I have meal worms she will almost come to me when feeding them her mate will come to me with out being bribed I just have to say hello to him and he meets me at the side of the pen the 2 without girls are much higher strung

Pretty Much All New World Quail Speces Are Flighty, Spastic And High Strung

Behaviors Are Fairly Even Across The Board But Gambels And Valleys Dont Seem To Bite As Quickly As Bobs

I have valleys and I have a male that flies on my shoulder when he escapes. He "thinks" he will get the thistle seeds that way. It works haha. And the giggle sounds they make! Priceless! Such funny birds. But they do fly. Had one in the wilderness for a good 3-4 days (I don't remember how long) before he came home.

IT REALLY IS THE CUTEST THING... I HAVE A MALE THAT ROOSTS ON TOP OF THE WATER FONT AT NIGHT TO STAND GUARD.. ANYTHING MOVES AND HE LETS HER FLY-- YOU HEAR THIS TINY LIL HOARSE WOWMP WOWMP WOWMP! AND LIKE A LIL ANKLE BITER DOG HE DOESNT STOP BARKING EASILY... KEEPS AT IT TIL HE THINKS THE THREAT IS GONE (ALMOST GUINEA-LIKE BUT NOOOO WHERE NEAR AS ANNOYING)

ITS KINDA DIFFICULT ACTUALLY BECAUSE I HAVE LEARNED THEY'RE GREAT LIL WATCH DOGS BUT WHEN I HEAR 'EM GO OFF I GET TOO TICKLED TO BE OF ANY ACCURATE USE WITH A RIFLE
