Pest Medications?

I have been seeing alot of threads about worms, mites, and other chicken pests. So I was wondering what everyone does to keep their chickens healthy as far as dewormers and such. For example my dogs get heartworm meds and flea/ticks meds ... should I be doing something similar to keep my chicks healthy? If so what brands and how much?

I personally wouldn't worm them unless you notice a problem. For example, weight loss/diarrhea/worms in poo. Some vets will do a fecal test for worms (false negatives are possible).

Look up these meds: (I have to worm twice a year.)
Wazine (piperazine)
Safeguard (fenbendazole)
Valbazen (albendazole)
Rooster Booster wormer (starts with "h" cannot remember)

Poultry Dust from feed store (permethrin) for mites/lice. Repeat in 7 days for mites and 7/14 days for lice. Dust coop and toss bedding/nesting material also with each treatment (I just mix it with my sand and don't use shavings).

Carefully research before using meds- you will find many posts on BYC saying to toss eggs for a couple of weeks after wormers.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! I never had problems with my first flock and the thought of worming them never even crossed my mind. However they also spent most of the day free ranging because we had the space and neighbors lived far away. This flock will need to stay in their run because we have since moved and have neighbors close by. This made me think I should at least look into wormers since they will be in close quarters with each other.
