One of our main goals is to start a co-op at a school in September, that we are building on the mountains of Haiti. Each student in a class of about 20-30 children will receive a small chick to raise . We will teach them everything there is to know about raising these chickens and have a coop on the school grounds for them to work with each day. The students' chickens will wear identity bracelets. When the chickens begin to produce eggs, we will distribute them among the students each day. So far, we have found out where to purchase the chicks, and have found the location for the school. One of the challenges I am having is where to find a solar led lamp that can warm the baby chicks. The other challenge is how to create homemade chick starter. Most of the chickens here in Haiti are thin and are free ranged. I can purchase feed, but getting it up to the mountain can be a real challenge, and not very cost effective for us missionaries.

Awesome! Do you have a website or blog so people can follow along with your progress? I'd love to see how it turns out and how it impacts the children and community!

Our website is www.tbwofministries.org. However, I don't have very many pics yet of the mountain on there. We won't be able to start the work until September. The one good thing about the mountain people is that most of them will let you take pictures of them. So, lots of pics will be coming. I am sure grateful for the Backyard Chickens site. There are a lot of good diagrams, and everything you need to know about raising chickens on here. Love it!
