Okay, so here's the deal, we live on a dirt road which contains several dirt driveways. The first driveway is for a singlewide that is rented out. It is 2 in the morning and the dog was barking in the bay window.. Look out the window and some idiot is spinning their wheels on our dirt road tearing up the street. Shine the flashlight at them to let them know their behavior didn't go unnoticed. They turn around and I expect them to leave, but they cut the lights and park at the single wide. Turns out it's our neighbors.

We are the only ones with a tractor, therefore we are the only ones who maintain the driveway making it possible for everyone else to get in and out.

They stopped for now, but if it happens again what would be the best course of action? I've contemplated calling the cops, but I have no idea what it would report. A disturbance? It is 2 in the MORNING. I also contemplating letting off a shot from one of the rifles or shotgun. Not at them of course, you know at that coon getting into my chicken coop.

I suppose I'll be having a talk with their landlord. He's a nice man, but renters never seem to respect what's not theirs.

Talk with the landlord.

Take them some cookies and show them the damage.

I'm sure others would have better ideas.

Is this a one time thing or ongoing?

If a one time thing, talking with the landlord would probably be a good place to start. See if he can nip that sort of behavior in the bud. If it's ongoing, you could always just have a conversation with local law enforcement and see what recourse/options you have available to you, if any. There are noise ordinances in rural areas, too, at least there is in ours. The officers can have a conversation with the offending party without charging with them anything - a conversation with someone wearing a badge might, and I stress 'might', show them the error of their ways.

Hope this helps, good luck!

First step is talking to the landlord, because if the driveway is shared (as in it is not solely yours) then he would be either part or fully responsible for fixing the driveway that his renters tore up. I am sure he will either kick them out or some how make them pay for it, then they may think twice before being destructive.

If they start up again at 2am then yes, call the police about noise disturbance, and their landlord.

That is just what I would do anyway.

What is it with renters? No respect. We have a similar problem in our neck of the woods. Our City Council is currently drafting an ordinance to deal with what they call "Nuisance Neighbors" causing these problems. Check your local laws, contact the local PD, notify the landlord, and DON'T shoot at the idiots. You will have everyone's sympathy until shots start being fired. Hopefully, one or all these things will convince the renters to take their after-hours activities further from home.

Good luck.

I feel better this morning, now that I got some sleep. LOL

I don't know what it is with renters, no respect for what is not theirs. They seemed to quit once we shined them with the flashlight and they noticed 3 of us in our PJs watching them be idiots.

I know it's fun to spin your tires and throw dirt, but there are areas around us for that. Go to the local sandpit/4wheeling pit to do that.

They didn't start back up last night, I decided that if they did it again, we would make a noise complaint. Once we went outside and watched them park, we could here them arguing. I guess someone up there has some sense. It's just aggravating, ya know? Anyone with a dirt road knows that they are actually pretty high maintenance and that spinning tires, sliding, and throwing dirt is one of the quickest ways to dismantle it.

That poor landlord never gets any decent renters, these have been the best so far but lost my respect last night. It seems every time someone is renting that lot, someone has to call and complain to some kind of authority. It seems that the last two renters decided they needed dogs, and someone called animal control(not us) because the first time a black lab was tied out no food or water and emaciated(he ended up getting loose and getting hit and then left untreated). And people complain about bad landlords, you have to wonder why landlords get so strict!

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions. Sorry for the early morning rant.
