Is it possible to utilize regular pet bottles (hamster/etc) for watering your chicks?

Yep. If you have a piece of red tape or red nail polish, color the metal tube a little near the ball to help attract them. Once one of them figures it out, they will all follow. Put their water dish really close to the bottle so that they have to pay attention to it. One will eventually run into it and within a few days, you can remove the water dish.
