Hello again, We have only one hen.. she adopted us a few mayb two months ago. She wondered into our yard and has stayed with us. She lived up in the trees for a while and came down for food and water. Guess, she likes it here and started laying an egg a day. We build her a little hen house ad now we hope she has a safe place to stay at night. Chicken is what my hubby calls her. She just loves him and follows him every where he goes when he is working outside. She constantly by his side watching him plant, dig hole or just sitting on the patio. Anyway she started brooding. So we chase out of her nest & put her back @ night. She hates it but so far she is getting a little less irritated when we remove her from her nest.

We are new to all this so how long does it take to get her out of this mode???? I think she is a Mexican hen, not sure what type of hen but i think she is reincarnated. LOL .

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

A broody cycle can last anywhere from a few days to a month. I've attached some links about broody hens and how to break them.

Again, welcome to the community!

Welcome to BYC!

How nice that you could give her a nice home. Yes, you can either break her of broodiness or let her run her cycle. They get easier to break after that first week. Mountain Peeps has left you with some great links to follow.

Enjoy "Chicken" and welcome to our flock!

Thanks again. Yeah, she's a keeper! This is the second hen that has visited us and never left the yard. My first was killed by a predator one night.. She lived outside in the bushes but blessed us with beautiful eggs. We played hide & seek..when she laid eggs . No idea about chicken information. She would lay them and I would hunt for them everyday... So funny now that I think about it.

A great way to break he is to get some egg's from e-bay and put them under her

My broody being broken with 20 egg's and I bet after raising some
chicks of her own she will think twice next time ...

Poultry are a very social bird and get lonely ...

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your hen, nice of you to take her in!

thanks for i fo on broody hens.. My husband does not want her with eggs. He want to let her go through her broody stage naturally. She lost weight but he refused to traumatizes her.
So two month later she is still broody & is taken out of her coop every-morning and locked out till dusk. She force to scavenge for food and is feed fruits, worms and feed. She seems to be eating more and more.
