I have two pet rabbits that currently live in a large 2 story cage in our basement. I would LOVE to move the cage to a barn on our property but I'm worried might get to hot in the summer. There are a lot of wild rabbits who live in the barn but I assume they burrow in the heat. Anyone have experience or advice with this?

On the few VERY HOT days take them into your basement. At night, back into barn. Very hot being in excess of 95. JMO. Other option is to modify their cage so they are on ground inside barn. If barn is cement floor, then provide them course sand or gravel. Have fresh air ventilation available to them when inside. Another idea would be to provide a small fan providing a GENTLE BREEZE I am not sure of rabbits , like dogs, If their cooling is thru their breath. Gentle breeze will aid in cooling them some. I believe some heat is radiated thru their ears.
WISHING YOU BEST

You can freeze bottles of water and wrap them so they can lay by them if they he hot. Provide extra water, And ice heard of people getting small slabs of marble for rabbits to lay on to keep them cool.

Certain breeds take heat better than others so it partly depends on the breed on how heat tolerant they are.

I have a mini rex who lives free in our yard. Its gets hot in the summer but they are smart. As long as there is some good shade, they will find it. Ours goes under our porch or in a shaded corner. He will find himself a cool patch of dirt too. He does great outside. Going on his 4th year living free :)

The bunnies seem to love living with the ducks- they are so much more active and attentive. Must be more interesting than just watching the washing machine cycles! Thanks for the advice!
