Pew! Is there a better bedding?

I switched to these compressed pine pellets that are for horse stalls. They are crazy absorbent compared to shavings and I am finding that I am cleaning half as much. They are $6-7 dollars a bag at TSC.

Where is your pictures? Do you use sand on your duck and geese too?

We use sand for all our birds after the first couple weeks.

Steve

Do you have a picture with the birds and the sand? Like your ducks and geese? I could not tell that there is sand in your picture. Where do you get the sand? Is it easy to clean in those wooden boxes? I like the plastic for easy clean up. How many birds do you keep in the 4X4? Didn't you say you keep them in it until they are 4 months old so they don't touch ground? You also said you have your hens raise all your turkeys because they are healthier. So which is it? You also said you don't keep chickens and turkeys together after 3 days. I have been doing this awhile and those look older than three days old on your web page.

I get the sand from a sand pit just down the road from out house - I live about an hour from the beach so there is plenty of sand. Would you like prices per dump truck load, I usually get it from Tranters Creek mining company and you can find them in the Greenville, NC yellow pages

Yes they don't go outside until they are about that age. When they do go outside it is to a totaly covered pen with a layer of fresh sand so actually they don't hit the outside ground until they go out with the flocks.

You also said you have your hens raise all your turkeys because they are healthier

What I said was our breeders are hen raised. The poults that we sell are incubated.

You also said you don't keep chickens and turkeys together after 3 days

Once again, what I said was I seperate them because of the different protien level and price of the feed. Chicks don't need 28% protien and it costs about 4 dollars more a bag. I also said that when I drop the protien level of the feed I put them back in together.

Empty brooders should not have any smell. Seems like a lot of work and expense if you have no turkeys in them. Where is all your turkeys? I live in the desert. There is no shortage of sand here.

If you are looking to start an argument you are barking up the wrong tree. Have a nice day

No argument here. Just asking for the same from you that you asked of me. I am sure others would love to see your design at work with sand and birds. I sure the average person does not want to get a truck load of sand though. Taking beach sand is illegal here.
