Hello-

just got some eggs from a breeder and they were not labeled. I have Red golden and yellow golden eggs. Is there a way to tell the difference between both of them? The females I mean

Also, would a humidity range between 50-60% be OK?

Thanks for your help!

Red Golden hens are a rust /brown color. Yellow Golden hens can range from a pale grey to almost white, depending on the line and purity. Both will have darker barring pattern throughout the plumage.

Your humidity should be fine. Increase it though to 70-75%, 3 days before hatch.

Turkaholic,

Thank you for your response. One more question... when you say that the Red Golden hen are rusty red, you mean the adults or the babies? The yellows will range that much in color? Would I be able to tell the difference when they are born?

Also, hoe can I tell the diference between male and female as babies? If that is not possible, how old do they have to be before I know for sure whos a male and whos a female?

Thanks for all your help!!

I was refering to adults, not the chicks.

I haven't hatched out any Goldens yet, since this is my first year with them and the turkeys are my priority. I believe the yellow goldens chicks will be much lighter in color when they are hatched and should be distinguishable from the normal reds. As to sexing them at an early age, I will have to ask someone else here to chime in who has more experience with these birds. Next year I hope to be able to answer questions like these!
