Pheasant Housing Question

Fireback pheasants are supposed to be mean too but I dont have any experience with them.
I had swinehoe, white crested kalij, blue eared, red and yellow golds, impayan and prolly some more I'm forgetting. The pied and white are from blue peafowl
Oh my! I didnt know there were so many kinds of pheasants! The only ones I really know of are the ones I see in the back of cackle hatchery catalog, and other hatchery catalogs.

I've got some reasearch to do! Did you raise them for eye candy or meat? Pheasant hunting is a big thing, but breeding pairs are so expensive I cant imagine raising them for meat.

Strictly lawn ornaments as I called them. Yeah there's a lot of different ornamental pheasants.
Some pretty pricey. Some more difficult to raise than others. I had a pair of coppers that I had to keep separated and had a divider in the pens with a door to let them mate then i had to separate them again cause the Male would kill the female. The swinehoe female wood lay an egg then turn around and peck a hole in it so it wouldn't develope. They say some do that in captivity I had many long evenings cause of that bird I had to watch and pull the egg

Honestly pics even that one doesn't do them justice. They look amazing the colors are soo eye popping. All of them are like that. And then there's when the sun hits them right

Oh my! That's a beautiful bird!! Was this a variety you raised?

Do you have netflix? We just watched a documentary on there the other day, dancing with the birds I believe it was called. Stunning!!

Where did you live when you raised them? Were in colorado, so we would need something that will tolerate the cold. Being a Himalayan bird, I would think these would be a colder climate bird?

Nah I didn't have any of those, too expensive. I have Netflix I'll check it out. I live in Louisiana so I have no experience with the cold weather.
Oh I bet your birds love it down there. I miss the south. I let mine out the other day after the snow melted off enough for bare ground to show and they looked at me like I was supposed to shovel the whole yard for them:rolleyes:

Thank you so much for the different breeds of pheasants! There are so many beautiful ones.

I imagine they are not a bird you free range, but keep in an aviary enclosure? I assume this because of the high cost of the birds, and the fact they're likely to run off into the wild, never to return. My landlord keeps hers in enclosures.

Mine were in pens 6feet wide 6feet high and 12feet deep. It was actually sets of pens 12deep by 24feet wide divided into 4. 8feet of the top starting from the back was covered by tin I had three branches and fake trees in them with plywood in the back leaning like a lean to for them to get away when they wanted.
I actually think they would do better in the cold than in our summers
