When I came home from work, there was a male pheasant near our chicken coop, but when he saw me, he took off.
Well, since it stopped raining I decided to let the girls out for a while. I just went to check on them and sure enough, he came back. At first he was just pecking through the grass with them, but then out of nowhere he mounted my biggest hen...
Can wild game birds actually reproduce with domestic fowl? If so, what does a pheasant-chicken mix look like and are they worth keeping around in terms of behavior, look, and egg-production?
I doubt any chicks will result from this encounter since my hens do not tend to go broody and he didn't stay much longer (since I scared him off again), but I'm just curious.... It was kind of awkward, haha!
