My pheasants just started laying about a week ago. Although the cold weather shut thier eggs production off for a few days, I noticed yesterday that a few eggs were broken open and the insides were eaten. The shells were left so I don't think that they need any more calcium in thier diet. They get high protien feed and I throw bales of very leafy alfalfa in with them also.
What reason are they eating their eggs? What can I do to make them stop this behavior?
