Hi there! I'm looking for some ornamental breeds of pheasants. Does anyone know where I can buy pheasants without having to buy 25 chicks? I already have 4 golden pheasant mixes. I'm especially looking for reeves. Thanks!

Tony,
Could you give me some information on Phesants, I saw some Amethrsyt(sp) and some other pheasants at the fair, question is how do they do with the chickens? Do they have their own pen? You suggest buying older maybe? How much room do they need? How do I find birds that aren't related? What kind of personality do they have? I am in Oregon and the card of the breeder was on the pen. Should I start with him?
thanks so much!!!!!!!
Golden and Silver I read are the calmest?, and I do understand that they have not really been domesticated the way a chicken has. I do have 7 acres. Does each pair need its own pen? The Amherst was absolutely gorgeous, I know however they will not be following me around and jump on my shoulders the way my bantam old english hens do. Lol.(unless I mess with a brooding hen, lol)Lady Amherst is their english name.Pheasants should be raised by themselves not mixed with any other birds.Pheasants can catch diseases from other poultry. They should not even be next to each other.I think it's best to buy 5 or 6 month old birds so they can get use to you.Personality is like a human, you never know how they are going to react to you. Most are calm, but there's always 1 bird that wants to be different.Buy from 2 breeders and switch males, sell of 1 pair or raise 2 pairs. They will still be half related though.I don't like the idea of showing pheasants as they are gamebirds and can be spooked very easily, jumping into the top of the cage and ripping his/her head apart or even killing itself. He could be your contact,I'm sure he knows more people in your area that raise pheasants. There are only 3 people listed in the APWS in Oregon, and none list pheasants. What breeds are you intersted in?Just the amherst?

Do you ship your birds Tony, I am here in Oregon
Each bird has it's own personality. Some silvers can be very aggressive as can reeves.Goldens are usually pretty calm, there have been a few incidents with them at times but overall they are nice birds.
Yes,each species should be in it's own pen so there is no cross breeding.
You never know about amherst, they may jump on your shoulder if they feel comfortable with you, ecspecially if you bring them treats.
If your looking for birds,I have yellow goldens, silvers, amherst, eliots, impeyans, and temminicks.I also have cockatiels and diamond doves.
