And I believe that may be true about what you said regarding the origins of longtailed breeds in the west. Most people don't realize that Japan has several breeds of longtail chickens (which likely gave rise to several breeds of longtails in the west, like the Phoenix, Yokohama, etc.), of which the onagadori was only one of several that was imported. As far as I know though, only the Phoenix is of partial Onagadori descent, which is why other longtail breeds (aside from actual Japanese onagadori and a very select few Phoenix) show any degree of non-molting.

I am hoping for the best... so I hope for live chick.

On an unrelated note I am pretty sure one of the Ayams we hatched is a Bantam... so that is interesting.

As far as cross breeding goes... I will be running some breeding experiments with the laying flock since we will be keeping roosters now... with goals of course.

So I was moving around some juveniles to their new grow out pen today and thought I'd take some pictures of ones that I'm excited about!

This is a blue cockerel w/ black feet (and I think he may be carrying mottling as well!)

This girl is from a cross I did with my splash rooster over some silver ginger hens. I think she might be a platinum silver or gold duckwing.

This girl is from the same cross, but she came out blue gold duckwing.

A pullet from a cross I did with my best dun hen paired with my best silver ginger rooster. She has a bit of leakage in her hackles, but other than that she's turned out really nice so far! My goal with crossing the silver gingers w/ the dun line is to make a line of solid colored birds with extreme feathering, that when I need to I can cross back into the dun line to get some fresh genes.

Another blue cockerel, he has a bit of leakage in his hackles but I really like his type and he has excellent feathering. He's one of the only ones that I'm not sure what line he's from. He could be one of the silver ginger x blue line crosses (if so, he'd be the only one that come out solid, but that would explain the leakage as well as the better feathering), or he could be pure blue, but I doubt this as I think his feathering is a bit too good 😅

And here are some of the extreme feathered silver gingers!
This pullet has really good feathering and saddles for her age, as well as a nice tail spread

Here is another pullet w/ well developed sickles for her age, and she has a very friendly temperament

And this boy is probably the one I'm most excited to see mature. He has a really calm, people oriented temperament, and a ridiculous amount of multiple feathering going on. I think he will be one of the ones I test for non-molting!

I have never raised these before so not sure if I am getting their colors right other than the white chicks...

The leg colour looks right on the chicks so that’s good.

I have the eggs incubating I ordered so excited to finally be able to have this breed.
