I've been putting off moving the Cornish Cross out of the brooder because we were having a week of 30 mph winds and temperatures at 20 degrees at night.

So finally, the weatherman says we get a week of lovely weather. It's beautiful outside. So I disassemble the lights from the brooders and move them to an outdoor run. The chicks are moved outside, feeders are filled, and within a few minutes the chicks are up on their feet and happily exploring.

Fine, right? I looked at the thermometer when I went to bed last night and it was 26 degrees outside. Those poor chicks.

This morning? Everyone asleep under the lights until they heard me, then they all started running around. I honestly expected to find dead chicks this morning, but everyone seems to be OK.

I'll watch them extra carefully for any sign of digestive or respiratory problems brought on by chilling.

I've got a new problem with the chicks, though. They want to stand on my feet and it is difficult to move around the run and take care of the birds and the rabbits with 50 fat white chicks all trying to sit on my feet.

Haha I can just imagine them all sitting on your feet!!
