laid her very first egg today

it's small like a chicken egg
i imagine in about a week if she keeps laying, they will be full size
i was hoping the girls wouldn't lay until spring, but it warmed up here ........60 degrees!

i had to laugh
she marched herself out of the basement and back to the day pen with determination in her little waddle
got behind the duck house
and settled in

egg laying is hard work you know
especially for the very first one

she even ignored slugs and worms to lay her egg

i thought i was seeing egg bulges under those girls
so i know now
and i am waiting for cleo and lilliana to lay theirs

i am doing this 'close to the house' pen just in the nick of time

i will relay that to phoebe

well they will be laying just in time for holiday baking
since my hens are really old and not laying much at all

( new chicks coming next week...monday or tuesday)
