Photographing Chickens

Hello

I'm learning how to use my new camera (info below), and would like some possible info from other experienced photographers of chickens.

Side-note: I have a Nikon D7000 with a 180-300mm lens.

For the reasons of how chickens move around so quickly, and all the other variables included, what would I:
-Set my f/stop to
-Set my shutter speed to
-Set my iso to
-Manual mode?

I'm in Manual mode. The area I usually shoot in is bright, so I would assume a higher iso? Just started taking photo at school right now, so that should help as well.

The thing that will really make it click as to how each setting affects your picture is to take pictures while adjusting only one component. Find a spot with similar lighting to your intended photo and give yourself a point of focus, whether its a flower, stuffed animal, shoe, whatever. Then toy around with changing just one component at a time. For instance, keep your iso and shutter speed the sme and change the f/stop with each picture.

I'm definitely no professional and I don't have a good camera but I thought this was a good shot of my rooster Big Man in mid crow lol.
