(PIC HEAVY) Smoky Mountains/Cades Cove

I met one of the Sheilds descendents, but I can't remember his first name. He was a botanist and did a lot of plant grafting. There's a church in South Knoxville that has red, pink & white blooms on a dogwood tree that he grafted. He grafted several other dogwoods as well. I got to go on a bus tour of the area with him as a college freshman. He's the one who told me, "If you don't like the weather around here, just give it a minute. It'll change."

(sorry the quote thing didn't work)

Wow! My Grandfather Shields went into the nursery business and that is our family business today.

That is really cool, GaDawg!

Yeah, the guy I met was definitely all about plants. I only remember the dogwoods, and where one is at. But he did a lot of other trees as well.

Oh man, I would really like to go there!! I just mapquested it and it would take about 4 1/2 hours to get to Cades Cove. I think that's a trip I will have to make next year or so. Sounds and looks awesome!

These pics are just a very small part of that park, I encourage everyone to take a vacation there. I didn't want to leave those mountains. I was there for 2 weeks and I went there 4 times. Take the hikes they are well worth it.

Those pics are why I choose to live in a home that most people would consider a vacation spot. Never can figure out why people only vacation in a spot they could actually live in...(I know, I know, jobs, etc). If you want to be there, make it happen. Of course you may have to live in voluntary poverty like I do, LOL.

And this doesn't help when I'd rather be in TN than Ga anyway.... Nice pics. Love the mountains!

Such beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing them. I live in the lowest foothills of the Smokies, but my heart lives in the mountains! My uncle lives in Morristown, so I'll feel as if you and I are neighbors. Hope you enjoyed your visit home.

I did thank you...I lived in Morristown until last year when I moved here in MN. I didn't care for Morristown area, but I do love those mountains. I miss my family very much, but I cannot begrudge my husband his turn. He was away from home for 25 years(21 with the military, and 3 with me in TN) until last year.
