We began construction yesterday on our second coop due to the fact that I have... an addiction to chickens.
The floor is an 8x24 rectangle with a 4X8 bumpout centered in the front for grain storage. Part way through building the floor, one of the tennants showed up and said he invited some of his relatives to come live with him. Apparently they had lost their home through a foreclosure. I couldn't turn them away... So change one... an unplanned loft addition 4 feet off the main floor in the back half of the coop. (Actually someone forgot how to add up how many birds she has and how many will be showing up after all the eggs hatch...)
As fate would have it, just after the foundation blocks were laid and the construction started, the old goat of a building inspector showed up and checked for permits. Of course, we had all the paperwork in order. He said he would be back often, or send some of his friends to check on us.
So, we finally finished the floor.
