Aren't Light Brahmas supposed to be hardy in cold-weather areas? I like my Light Brahma - she's confident and calm, and I love her feathered feet.

Another vote for an EE, too. My EE is the sweetest of my four chickens and a little smaller than the rest - a nice manageable size.

Call me a sucker...

At the flee market today I found an old wooded chicken crate and right next to them was a cage of Ameraucanas.

They said they where 4 months...BS more like 3. Anywho after making the rounds I found myself back at the chicken crate paying for it and picking up 2 of the best looking pullets that they had.

My wife rolled her eyes when I came home and my 4 year old daugher has already given them names. Mellissa ( orAlissa...name has changed a few times) and Jazz.

Time to go read on introducing new younger birds to old flock.

Don't forget about quarintine. Super important when bringing new birds into the flock. Congrats on the new additions, sounds like your daughter is already in love!

I just read about 9 "inducing new chickens to flock" posts. Quarintine is in affect. They are in a fenced in area where they are getting some grass to eat on and some mulch to dust bathe in.

I let my other 4 out to free range and they came running over to their favorite bathing spot and all stopped dead in their tracts when they saw the newbies. the alpha hen started clucking and they all seemed to have the body langauge of W T F!

I just went out to check on them and all they were all dust bathing the mulch right next to each other a perfect picture but my camera batteries were dead.

I would say since you like variety, Welsummers and Easter Eggers. You would have a nice variety of hens as well as a variety of colored eggs. Kind of a two for one.

I LOVE Polish hens. They are funny to watch and very pretty birds, I think.

Some are good layers -- my Maestro is a great layer.
