Hi,
I have two olive egger roo's. One is 13 weeks old first generation
The second is 4 weeks old 3d or 4th generation
I really wanted to keep the 4 week old but he is growing in a straight comb
I read a straight comb will not give the olive geene, is this true?
Which one should I keep?

It is likely that the straight comb boy is not carrying the genes to make blue/green eggs. There is a slight chance he is, but most likely not.

If you are looking to pass on the blue/green egg gene, which you need to make an Olive Egger, I would pick the pea combed boy.

Now if only roosters could lay eggs you could see what color egg genetics he carries! But since you can't, I'd stick to the pea combs.

I suppose it depends on what kind of hens you are planning to breed him to as well. If you are using dark olive egger hens, then the straight comb guy might work. If you are crossing to Marans, or Welsummers, then I'd go for the pea combed boy. Good luck! I love the olive eggs!

Ok, I was really hoping to keep the lighter one but don't want to take any chances.
Thanks for the input
