Pick my paint!

I like the eggplant/burgandy colored stain. Then you could trim it out with some "painted ladies" colors such as dark teal green, golden, avacado... you get the idea.

BTW, LOVE that house!!!! Is it a "new" old house??

If you really want to paint it I agree. Paint it a eggplant stain. Not paint. Don't cover up the pretty wood. Let it show through.

Eggplant stain with white trim would be pretty. Or even the color of your house. I would paint the trim with actual paint and not stain.

I like the stain idea. I'm still partial to the fun, make you cheerful colors but I definitely agree on the stain idea with painted trim. I hate decisions like this because I'm terrible at visualizing the final product. If I could see the two versions in front of me I could decide in a second. You can imagine the torture of deciding the house colors. Of course now I wish it were yellow!

Sianara--- Thanks!! The house is truly old, built in 1865. We just had it painted this spring. We are going to paint the porches this weekend too. The inside was last decorated in 1867 I think. Wallpaper hanging off the walls etc. We do an average of one room every 3 years. EVERYTHING takes longer than you think. Hence building the chicken house and not staining it for a year.

I'll post when it's done (it may be awhile!)

Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll look good. Don't forget to post pix, we'll be waiting

We built our house 25 years ago (OMG!! Has it been THAT long already???) but I've always envied those that had really old houses. All the history and beauty that goes along with them is great. If we ever win the lottery my DH says we'll build a "new" old house (ETA because he doesn't want all the work and cost that goes into renovating

). We'd design it after traditional victorians but with all new walls, floors etc. With asthma the reality of living in an old house wouldn't be feasible for me - but I still like to dream.

Come on lottery!

I buiilt a large coop much like yours. I figured onced my wife found out how expensive her eggs were going to be, I might have to live in the coop. Only 6000 more eggs until the break even point. I love your coop. I would go with a transparent stain to show off the wood. But no pink for me.

Yeah, I hear you with the asthma. I have it too. The amount of dust in the house seems incredible. We are way in the country which doesn't help....and we also have chickens!

We decided on the porch and deck stain today and my creative juices have dried up. I tend to be too conservative with my color choices so I am hoping that I can mix it up a little on this one. I usually chicken out at the last minute so we'll see. I'll let you know!

u8sushi---- I am waiting for the day when my husband will let me move out to the coop! Peace, quiet and chickens. Heaven. For some reason he thinks he needs help with the kids though.
