Yesterday i answered an ad on CL for a flock of free fantails. Turns out that she really meant flock!

So I answer the ad and she tells me that they have to go together ALL OR NONE! I say that's okay, not even thinking to ask how many their were. I drive an hour and arrive at her house with 4 boxes. Turns out i needed all the extra boxes, cause her flock was 15 fantails and 7 homer/fantail crosses. I slap myself mentally and start rounding up the pigeons.

Her lofts were gorgeous, though. She had two and they were both 40'x20'x20' and completely enclosed and dry. She handed me a net for the fantail loft and i turned it down and just caught them all by hand. I did a few mid air catches that were quite skillful. The homer loft was much more difficult since they were faster and I ended up needing the net for those guys.

I love these fantails, their are at least 4 or 5 varieties in their, Blue pied, black pied, a few reds and a couple that I'm not familiar with. They are all beautiful and super friendly birds. I'll have to go through and weed out the ones that don't meet the standard, but there are a few that have some nice potential as show birds and breeders. The homer crosses are pretty cool too and look pretty interesting. I'm pretty excited and I'm thankful that my loft is so large. They all have plenty of room.

Here's a red saddled cock. He is the only one with an NPA band on him.

A red cock and in the background you can see a pair of blue pieds.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the color of this hen. She shows good potential when she's a bit calmer and stands correctly.

This is all I could get for pictures since it's so dark and gloomy today.

I weighed a few of them and they are each about 16-18oz birds. They are a bit slim since they were bred pretty much the entire season so they should put on an ounce or two in the next few weeks.

They have to be the most vocal group of birds I've ever had. Even my previous Fantails didn't talk so much!

Another cock that I need a color ID.

This cock I thought was very pretty. I want to say Andalusian, which is the Komorner version of the color.

The same cock from a top view.

Two of the Homer/Fantail Crosses. I just love the color on these birds.

Another Homer cross. There are two this color.

This little hen is another homer cross and still squeaks.

A Homer pair. According to the breeder these two are pure homers without any fantail in them. I know they are a pair, because they were raising two squeakers that were 6 weeks old.

And just for fun, my Blue bar Homing pigeon. not from the fantail group, just one i already had.
