Picked up my factory hens....pictures and story

You have done a very nice thing. I hope all goes well with them. I looked up on your link, and I can't believe there are 28 Chicken egg farms here in Michigan. Please keep us posted.

I'd be tempted to just let them be for a few days, before trying to bathe or trim nails. They aren't used to being handled and are having a lot of stress already, just because everything is so strange to them.

I don't know about quarantine, but behaviorally, it's good that they are next to your other hens and can watch them. It will help them feel more secure, watching other chickens in an open area acting normally and being relaxed. It always helps dogs from puppymills, if they can be with other dogs in a home, watching and learning. They are less fearful, because the other dogs are not fearful.

Poor dears. You did a really nice thing. I hope they start to feel better soon.

You rock!

Oh yes, keep us posted with lots of pics and stories about your new Leghorns.
I'd love to see their week-by-week transformation.

Its because of those factory farming methods that I quit buying eggs and meat from the grocery store years ago. I started buying meat directly from farmers that care enough to raise their livestock ethically.

You did a WONDERFUL thing!

You are an angel for doing what you did!

I wish I had the means to adopt some of those babies!! Bravo and good karma to you!!!!

That's great. Make the lives of thoes hens that much better. Even if birds are going to be butchered at the end of their productive cycle, they have to at least live a good life! Keep us updated!

Those poor birds! They look horrible. They will be so happy to berunning around different scenery! Rah Rah to you!
I have been looking for a place in MA to at least rescue a couple to make a little difference but have not found any. Erin M

This story really made me very emotional. Bless your heart.
The hens probably think they've died and gone to heaven! A FREE heaven!
Job well done!
Wish I had more room, I'd do the same thing.
