omg cutest coop ever! before i even saw your polish idea, i thought polish would be good! I just ordered 15 polish hatching eggs and i hope they hatch! They are really cool to have, and you can buy hatching eggs on ebay! I sugggest buff orpingtons as well, although they look big and fat they are all fluff like cochins, cochins and buff orpingtons are very large frendly and great for kids, if you want something foragers or really good egg layers you can get a barred rock or some wyandottes! maybe bantams are good for you, try some cool breeds such as old english, seabrights, or such! but here you go, hope I helped!

Not quite sure what ornamental means, ummm For a good laying breed that is friendly I say a black australorp.

Fancy of course a polish!
And for others, japanese bantams? Brahmas..cochins, mille fluer d'uccle. That's all I can really think of right now.

Ornamental? Like bantams? I love the Sebrights. I have a friend with a bantam Sebright and she is the cutest thing in the world.

A good laying breed which is also very beautiful are Wyandottes. There are the gold-laced, silver-laced, blue-laced reds, and then the solid colors. They are great dependable layers, extremely hardy, not overly affectionate but nice, and lovely. They are sometimes broody, but out of 4 I only have 1 broody.

You have to be cautious when adding Polish birds. Sometimes their top-hats make them targets for abuse. Just thought I would throw that out there because it is a not uncommon problem.

Good luck with your new additions.

For cold weather areas, you can't beat the Chantecler. My partridges seem a bit friendlier than the white for some reason...but also a bit broodier. They're LOVELY birds. I also LOVE my Dominiques and my cochins.

I'm DYING to get my hands on some Brahmas, too. Pretty, friendly, and a nice hardy bird.

cool! I guess my idea was a good one!! Haha, they are very friendly and great with kids, they are good mothers but not overwhelming, they are good egg layers and are big and fluffy!

I would like chicks would any of my hen take over the chicks? Or will I have to raise them myself?

Fancy. . . .

There's Silver and/or Gold Laced Polish (non-broody, too)

Good layer. . .

There's Marans (I recommend Black Coppers or Wheatens) - They lay gorgeous dark red eggs of large to jumbo size all year round. Very docile breed, too.
