Picking out my chicks, need expert advice.

I would make sure you read the signs and if you want pullets, don’t buy any breed that says “straight run.”

I’m assuming you know that, but saying it just in case you don’t.

I would also get there on day 1. I believe they will refund/replace if you do lose any, and personally I’d rather have first dibs on the new breeds than get what’s left. ❤️

6. Any chick with a poopy butt. Don't think you will take it home and fix it. A poopy butt means health issues.
I disagree. I have raised pasty butt babies before, and they were completely recovered and healthy a few days later.

If there is clearly an underlying issue, do not pick the chick.
But just know that much of the time, it is a simple thing: they got stressed, having been transported for the first 24 hours of their life, and stuck in a shoddy TSC brooder. Their poop got a little watery, stuck to them, and then suddenly they have a life-threatening blockage. Nobody else is gonna save them. They do deserve a chance.

This chick…

Grew well and healthy. She’s a grownup beauty now.

Don’t cross them off your list if you can save them from a little poop. ❤️
