Picking up from the post office question

I've had two orders of chicks come to my p.o., and only one fatality. 47 the first time, with one dead. 26 the second time, and they're all 20 days old now and happy as can be. Try not to worry, chicks are supposed to be fine for 3 days without food/water, and they're tougher than we give them credit for.

Mine came on Tuesday, in the heat, but the p.o. supervisor called me when they came in and I went to get them-all perfectly healthy! If yours ship overnight, they'll be fine!

Don't worry they will call you bright and early. I didn't open mine at the post office, I don't really think you need too. Have fun with your new peepers!!!

I ordered the 25 brown egg layers bargain, 10 ee's and the free rare chick from Mcmurray. Im beyond excited, Hubby will be mad but not for long once he see's how much his daughters are enjoying them!!

Thanks everyone, I will call the PO tomorrow. Hubby still hasnt noticed the heat light, new feed trays, or the new watering container. He's clueless LOL

I know my mail lady well and she said she'd call when my eggs arrive so I can pick them up before I leave town for the day. of course, she'd rather not carry around the extra box all day either, even if it is small.

When you call your PO make sure and ask what time there trucks come in I have gotten calls at 3:00 Am before They even let me come in around the back I thought it was because of the racket they were making but the woman was so sweet and told me to get those babies home so they could eat and drink, maybe she has chickens?

I have the same issue, because Ill be at school when they come in...and I don't want them dying. I doubt my parents will want to take off work to go get them from the post office. :|

 I'm shocked too. I ordered 25 chicks from them and they also arrived July 30th and I only got 27 total. The ones I ordered were GL Wyandottes and buckeyes though, I suppose they don't have many extras of those.

Mine arrive healthy too.

I ordered mine from Meyer also 13 total and they are due to ship on August 11th, I'm wishing for maybe one extra but not 17. I just hope they're all healthy in this heat. Good luck with all those chickies

I just received my first chicks via P.O. last month. I was so excited the day before they came, I drove down to the P.O. left them my phone number on a sticky note and told them to call as soon as the chicks came in. They were great. The call came in at 7 a.m. the next morning, all chicks were peeping & pooping. I ordered 15 white bantam silkies and received 15 white and 1 black. JM Hatcherey was fantastic to work with. They warrenty your order, and send 2% more just in case some dont make the journey. I was very pleased.
