Here, there, and everywhere...
I'm picking up 8, 7 week old Cortunix quail tomorrow morning. I'm really excited, they are always in high demand around here but no one ever has them! A friend of mine got the eggs and hatched them, sold the extra, and then just decided to sell the rest, so she listed them for sale and I snatched them up as I missed out when she sold her extras. I've wanted Cortunix for two years now and I'm really excited, she says they are laying already but doesn't know how many are Roos off hand. I don't care, I'll eat the extra Roos or whatnot...

So, here I am to pick your quail-y brains!

I have:

Two large wire cages, old rabbit cages not fit for the rabbits anymore, but I think they'll be fine for the quail. Bottom wire on both cages is 1/2" X1" with side wire being 1"X2". Each cage is 36"X 36"X 18" high.

Various plastic poultry feeders and waters.

What do they eat? I am reading some people say to feed layer and others talking about feeding gamebird food which is what I thought they ate...

These cages do not have pans under them, which is why I no longer use them for rabbits. They were hanging cages that I got from someone who got out of rabbits...
I was thinking of keeping the two quail cages in the rabbit barn, what should I put under the cages to catch droppings?
I also have an empty large chicks coop building that I could put the cages in...

Do they need perches or anything?

Bin for dust baths right?

Thanks guys!
