Picky males -- won't mate with all the females

Anyone else have this issue? My breeding cage male has a habit of picking a favorite gal and maybe a backup. He will chase those two around constantly. Sometimes they are like, "yeah, whatever," sometimes (as with the one I rehoused) they're like, "over my dead body."

It's not uncommon for a male to have a favourite or two. That doesn't mean that he won't or doesn't mate with the others.

I hope that's the case. This is the same roo that decided birds with white patches should be killed. He's a beauty, dark Tibetan and from a celadon egg. He was obsessed with the Italian hen. When she started molting, she decided she was done with him -- ended up hurting herself for the second time trying to escape his constant advances. He's since moved on. His second choice is now is first, and he's actively pursuing a rosetta celadon.

Of course I want celadons, so I'm hoping it and other females all line up for his services -- not happening so far though.

We'll see. He and the Italian hen are the parents of my last hatch. I'm wondering if this is some type of inherited trait, or whether, somehow Mother Nature knows best and this batch will be all I've wished for.

Maybe I'm too much into the quail pen soap opera.

I have a hen who is the popular girl no matter which pen I put her in, I guess she’s super sexy by quail standards, she looks like all the other Tibetan tuxes to me lol. Even tho she’s always getting mounted, all the other eggs are fertile too. If the sperm gets in there it stays alive for much longer than a lot of other animals, so if he gets the deed done once or twice a week with each hen, and mates his fave constantly, they’ll still all Probably make chicks.
