Our cochin rooster is beginning to show great interest in the ladies. He is 5 months old and very large. We have a five month old cuckoo marans and several 3 month old pullets of various other breeds.
This guys seems to ignore the one older pullet. They walk around side by side all day like best buds. He puts on a huge show for the younger ladies and constantly tries to get ahold of them. They are much smaller than him and they're pretty good at escaping. When he finally gives up on them, he will show the older gal attention. She's always there-seemingly willing, but she's like his "last resort." It appears that he is only interested in a challenge....
Is there any logic to this behavior? I assumed they'd all be equally appealing to him. Just curious.
