Pics finally added of our Basenji Otis

You'll be a great Basenji mom! That was my first mistake. Never crate training mine. Second mistake was I don't have a fenced in yard and even though it was an inside dog, once she got out, she was a real hassle to catch. I loved mine, but I had to rehome her to a lady who was more familiar with the breed and had several others of her kind. I'm back to my default breed of mini dauchshunds now.

But wait til you hear him yodel! Of course you know that they don't bark, but that famous basenji yodel is hilarious!

What a face!!! So sweet, congratulations. I've never heard the sound a Basenji makes. I should try to find a sound bite. I'm looking forward to new photos when you get a chance. We have a new puppy coming home in 2 and a half weeks. I'll be busy soon too!

I do realize I might have a huge task ahead of me but I just love everything about this breed. Earlier when we were eating dinner we had the three of our dogs locked away from the kitchen table and Otis, the Basenji was making a very interesting sound almost like he was saying Roo but real gutteral, it was cool. We also have minature Dachshund, Gus and a Schnorkie ( minature schnauzer/yorkie), Luna. I will take pics tomorrow and post as soon as I get them of the camera I promise. He is beautiful and very smart...if you disregard the peeing and pooping part..LOL

Yeah, well, puppies do pee and poop, don't they?

That's what everyone keeps telling me anyway. I've only had adult dogs recently.

They seem to think we're biting off more than we can chew.
Pictures will help me pass the two and a half week wait until our Indy comes home (Indiana Bones)

I used to have a brown and white female.

Those dogs are the best I've ever seen at digging out.

I had to bury hardware cloth all along the bottom of our fence, that kept her in for awhile, until she found where the hardware cloth stopped, then she tunneled under it!

a dog that supposedly doesnt bark! that is what i need my two pups terrorize every person walking by the back yard. hes adoreable congrats on one of the most fun and challenging creatures on earth a puppy

Hey all. The first night with Otis went really well. He cried for a while, like a child crying really different from any other puppy I have ever had, but once he fell asleep he slept all night.
Took some pics of him last night when he was resting in my hubby's lap. I hope you'll enjoy them. He looks black but is really dark brindle and white, I think he is beautiful, I might be a little partial though...LOL

I will take some more pics today while he is up and about. He had a rough day yesterday flying from Springfield,Missouri to Dallas, Tx to finally get here, Houston. He was a trooper though.
Our other dogs are somewhat getting used to the idea of sharing mommy with yet another dog, and yes he saw the chickens last night and wanted to say hi so badly...we will do that today.

I've always wanted a Basenji too. But I read up on them and discovered they are smarter than me. So I got cats instead.
