(pics) New Cochin Owner!

AWW CRAP! Y'all didn't tell me that cochins like to roost!! I just went to check on them before I go to bed, and one of the hen's tried to roost on the watere and knocked it over. So the pen is now a slushy mess of wet shavings and spilled feed, and those gleaming white Cochins now have BROWN feet!!! LOL

Guess I'll be building a small roost tomorrow afternoon!

stop it, I'm drooling on the keyboard!

oh yeah, my cochins like roosting. Although it's really funny when my poor molting frizzles try to fly up to the roosts. They're sleeping on the ground right now.

See, Chris, when you have Silkies too long, you forget that chickens roost! Beautiful additions! Don't let those evil Silkies get jealous of their new roommates... When can I come pet them?

They are the start of all your future breeding pens problems

.... they have a LOT MORE colour varieties than your silkie... You don't know what you're getting into...

Saying it over and over and over: "I do NOT need cochins. I DO not need cochins. I do not NEEED cochins. I do not need COCHINS. " I've never seen cochins with such huge expressive eyes, delicate heads and "coats" of such beautiful perfection!

I WANT COCHINS!

Believe me, I searched high and low for a good while before I bought anything! I am very grateful for having the opportunity to start with such good birds, and I am going to work hard not to squander that opportunity.

I've got a lot to read and research about the breed and their Standard before we start showing again in the fall. Meanwhile, I hope to start hatching at least a few over the summer. They are all still young yet, but one of the pullets is in fact laying, and according to the breeder, these birds should do ok as natural breeders with a little trimming.
