thank you everyone for the nice coments, they really apreciate the shade, in winter it stops the snow and wind, and most of the rain, and in the summer it shades them from the sun, it gets so hot here in spain some summers, well today was a bit upsetting, 3 weeks ago i bought: 3 silkie eggs, 3 dutch eggs, 4 light brahma eggs and 5 marans eggs, i put them in the incubator and then 3 days after my super broodie decided she wanted to be a momma (i've lost count of how many she has hatched over the years, must be hundreds) so i gave her 3 silkies, 3 dutch, 2 brahmas and 2 marans. i didnt bother candling the marans eggs i wouldn't have seen anything at all. all the other eggs were developing fine, so today, day 21, only 3 eggs start pipping, 2 brahmas and one dutch, no sound or movement from any of the eggs, so i collect all of the ones that arent doing anything and give super broodie the 3 that are pipping, this evening at 5:30 i get back. i check on the hens eggs, they have hatched fine, then i check them over and the 2 brahma chicks have their middle toe andtheir outside toe fused toghether, and one is the wrong colour, it is brown and black... then i pick up the tiny duch chick up and notice that it is gasping for air, that stopped after a while. I go to the incubator and nothing yet. i am going to leave it 2 days to see if anything happens... anyway today has been a disapointing day...
