My flock. Three mystery breed pullets that we found as chicks hiding in our front yard (a neighbor let his flock roam in the streets, we'd find dead chicks often, so we decided to keep these ones). We didn't know how big they'd get, we hoped they'd be about 5-6 pounds big, so we adopted a brahma cockerel of about the same age. He's turning out to be gorgeous, but our pullets remained small, they are probably some bantam mix
.
They all have bonded very well, but the roo is now trying to mate with the pullets, so we're keeping an eye on them and checking them regularly during the day to make sure nobody gets hurt. He seems to love blonds because he keeps trying to mount the white pullet, and he's succeeded a few times. It seems that he hasn't hurt he yet because she isn't afraid of him and I haven't found any wounds on her, nor missing feathers. I guess we've been lucky so far, and I hope it stays that way.
