Thanks both of you! YAY! I'm learning- slowly but surely! I still think the tuxedo's look like little penguins when they are born!

The golden girl (I think it's a hen- she has spots) is staying- ok it's staying whether hen or roo....She comes up to the side of the pen as soon as she sees me in the barn and pecks at my rings when I reach in the pen. So she/he stays, lol....One of the tibetan/ranges was crowing today but I didn't have anything to band him with! ARGH! So have to prepare myself and be ready from now on.

It's amazing the difference in the characteristics between the coturnix and the bobwhites. We have a pen of each in the same stall in the barn and they are only a week apart in age. The bobs are big time "covey" birds. They look like they are smooshing each other most of the time but they aren't. If I move them apart they just huddle back up as soon as I walk out of the room. The coturnix aren't like that. They are much more independent of each other and curious.

It will be difficult culling the coturnix boys in a few weeks but I know it must be done. And bacon wrapped quail on the grill sounds so good! Kristi

Your golden is indeed a hen

as is the brown below her

the others, no clue

Your tuxedo may actually be a very rare Red golden (cinnamon range) tuxedo as it looks very red, but it's hard to tell from the picture or not if im seeing red or not

Where did you get that bird from (that might help me tell you) LOL!

I got those eggs on ebay from a guy here in Ohio- his ebay id is
davesbullets. I see he has more coturnix eggs up for auction again. He was great to deal with- sent enough extras that I bought 24 eggs but hatched 26 chicks. Ok LilRalphieRoosMom hatched them for me! LOL! Thanks Cindy!

I think the red tinge may be from the camera though but I will take a closer look at him today and try to get some better pictures. I have another tuxedo also that isn't marked as nicely as he is. I was thrilled I got all the different colors in that batch of eggs. I wasn't expecting that I guess. The golden hen is still my favorite though! She is hysterical- I'm glad she's a SHE! LOL! She runs over to the side of the pen to greet me. Then if I startle her by accident she goes hopping across the pen really fast- but then comes right back to see what I'm doing. Kristi

haha awh see that's what i Like to hear about, people seeing how enjoyable they can be, not just for food or eggs or hunting or whatever else. They are comical little guys. My favorite gal is the hen in my avatar "Panda" she's just like your girl....they just know how to make ya smile

If your 'red tux" isn't really a red tux then it's probably a dark range tux but it does really look like a red to me

hehe

Awww I haven't given her a name yet! Guess I better! Yes they are alot of fun to watch. I can make the whole pen stop moving by whistling to them- it's like the old "EF Hutton" commercials! LOL!

I looked at the tux's at lunchtime and they both definitely have a red/rusty colored tint to their feathers. I'll try to get one of my friends with a good camera to come over and take pics for me.

So the red rusty is only just in areas? if so then they are dark range tux
smile.png
If it's a uniform red then it's a red tux
big_smile.png
The red on dark range is the same red on the solid red coturnix only difference is the dark range are also very dark almost black in areas, and the red coturnix have no black
