I just bought 2 Eco 20's and would LOVE to see how you "stack" extra eggs in there. I have auto turners, do the eggs move around? How does it affect hatching?

Thanks!

First of all Congratulations for wise choice, Brinsea will not dissapoint you.

Ask JJMR794 (quail board) about eggs stacking . I believe he invented this concept (stacking eggs in Brinsea) ..

You will likely need a custom made set of taller dividers, (easily made).

As long as dividers are tall enough eggs should stay in place during the swing.

If the weigh is a concern and autocraddle can not handle it do manual turning (rather swinging) which personally I prefer, gives me more control and assures better supervision of hatching process.

JJMR794 packs 180 coturnix quail in his Brinsea ECO.

For hatching you,ll need to use seperate hatcher or other bator I'd say.

Wow, 180 Quail. We are just starting with them, shhhh.... don't tell DD-they are hers.

Taller dividers - maybe some 1/2" hardware cloth? Lets the air flow and is pretty stiff, could double it if needed.

Sure, I just bought the 2 turners - - maybe I won't stack THAT much.

Another hatcher, have to find one...

Seems really nice, do you use the Brinsea disinfectant?

I have a brinsea advance EX (same idea) on an autoturner, and while I don't 'stack', I can fit about 30 LF eggs in it just by careful maneuvering. I put all the eggs in, big end up and just don't use any dividers at all. It's a pain when you have to candle, but last time I had a very good hatch doing this. Not sure I'd dare put more in on an autoturner, but I think since I have the advance, the little card they use for humidity might block more eggs from fitting in stacked. Unless you are talking quail of course !

I am doing a quick estimate of what I am getting and what I can still fit. I could always gather from my own girls to fill in the extra space. BUT, if I find an auction or swap on BYC I may have to do that too.

Maybe I'll get DH to build me pens one of these days.

I am so lucky. DH just built me a new coop. 12 x 24 with 4 separate pens. Well, then I have a little tractor for the banties. And a ex-rabbit hutch for the Quail. Oh, and and a 4 x 8 coop that is supposed to be a grow out coop but is currently housing our Nigerian Dwarf goats that will be moving into a play house that has to be moved. We have a few buildings around here.
